Friday Night Lights : Review #2

standing on the edge of forever

Listening to the soundtrack from Friday Night Lights. I Haven't purchased it yet, just listening to some clips on Amazon, as I am wont to do.

I can't get over the, for lack of a better term, theme music they play during certain parts of the movie.

Especially this Sonho Dourado, by Daniel Lanois.

Call it manipulative or whatever (as far as its use in the film), but I can't help but marvel at it.

...

When three players walk out and look back at their school - their lives for the past 18 years - at the end of the film, there's something truthful about it.

Sure, its not something we all physically do. Stand there and gaze back at our past.

But metaphorically, it says something about the falling away of childhood - the passage of time, and the eventual descent into adulthood.

We lose something when we grow up.
And, as silly and contrived and hollywood as some parts of this film may be, it speaks to that truth.
