othelladub's Diaryland Diary ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- most of my heroes don't appear on no stamps War Is Over (if you want it)*
HOWEVER - Had Kerry won, I'm pretty sure that the situation in Iraq wouldn't drastically improve. He couldn't have done a worse job than Bush, but he may well have expanded the War. History has shown that having a Democrat in the White House doesn't necessarily avoid war-mongering behavior (SEE Kennedy, Johnson, Clinton). Presidents Carter and, yes, Nixon engaged the outside world (Egypt/Israel, China) thoughtfully. Regardless of what you think of them (and those on either side of the spectrum certainly have bile for both), they were intelligent men who made concerted efforts to improve America's relationship with the world. I would put Clinton in that category as well, although several of his interventions/bombing raids smell of politicking. Carter took a lot of heat for the hostage crisis in Iran & the oil crisis, Nixon for Vietnam & Watergate. The truth is, I'd take either one of them over either Bush OR Kerry. American Politics, currently, exist as a pacifying agent, a smokescreen for large corporations, a puppet show to distract the masses from the fact that their lives are being largely scripted based on the needs of corporate shareholders, of oil men, energy companies, and media conglomerates. The Republicans criticize the media elite. The Democrats criticize the "wealthiest 2-percent, Halliburton, etc". The reality is that its all a smokescreen. They peck at each other, but they are allied against us. Regular people who don't want to kill, be killed, or condone such actions, regardless of the thought process or justification involved.
